Growers and show-ers!

Sunday 12th September saw the double fun of our new members morning at the Yard and the ever-popular, Growers and Show-ers event at The Dorset (Formerly the Harvest Festival). People were invited to bring along their home baked goods and produce to be judged and we had a stall selling snacks and nibbles, baked and donated by Anne Bassett, Lucy Bassett and Gill Lindsay. If that wasn’t enough fun already we also had a toy tombola and a treasure hunt taking place throughout the afternoon.

We were inundated with entries this year with a huge array of cakes, a bounteous heap of veggies, jam for days and a couple of intriguing booze entries! To ensure impartiality we invited judges from our fellow societies and representatives of Waterloo, Southover, South Street and Commercial cast their appraising eyes over the entries. They were all incredibly impressed with the quality and indeed quantity of the entries and you’ll be glad to hear, took their judging duties incredibly seriously!

After much deliberation however, the winners were chosen, although the best two cakes were so good they were declared joint winners! Chairman and auctioneer supreme, Mr Keith N then sold off not just the winning entries but literally everything, including everything left on the snack stand! Between he auction, the treasure hunt and the stalls, we raised a yummy £317.50 and everyone who attended agreed it had been a great fun day. Herewith a list of the winners in each category and get practising your baking as we’ll definitely be doing this again next year…
